There are 8 principles to Pilates which are:

- Precision – Working the correct group of muscles that need to be worked in the correct order.
- Isolation – Trying to switch off muscles that are not required for the movement.
- Flowing Movements – This then leads to flowing movements.
- Control – Controlling the movements throughout using the correct muscles.
- Centering – Working from a strong centre or core.
- Breathing – It is the breathing that helps activate the important core muscles.
- Routine – Making the exercises become part of your lifestyle gives rise to the success of the Pilates method. Put simply practice makes perfect.
